The Self-Managed EVUP (Urban Pruning Valorization Station) project in L’Ametlla del Vallès has been highlighted as a cutting-edge initiative in sustainable green waste management in Catalonia, according to the newspaper El 9 Nou in its October 7, 2024 edition. This new plant, located next to the municipal waste facility, was designed to promote the self-management of pruning and gardening waste, thereby reducing the environmental impact associated with such waste. The Self-Managed EVUP will play a crucial role in producing compost for gardening and wood chips for biomass boilers, two products that support the development of the circular economy and sustainability. This pioneering facility in Catalonia is expected to serve as a model that can be replicated in other municipalities. Construction of the plant has already been completed, and it will be officially inaugurated on October 18. Once operational, the facility will manage collected green waste, ensuring its transformation into useful resources, thus reducing the environmental impact of waste management. This project has been spearheaded by the L’Ametlla del Vallès Town Hall, with support from the Barcelona Provincial Council, which has been key to ensuring that the plant meets the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability. The El 9 Nou article highlights how the plant will use advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence systems, to ensure optimal waste management and rigorous quality control of the compost and wood chips produced. Additionally, mechanisms will be in place to prevent the presence of impurities and to ensure that only appropriate waste from both citizens and professionals is accepted. The creation of the Self-Managed EVUP marks a significant step forward in green waste management in Catalonia. With the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council, this initiative aims to transform pruning waste into valuable resources and contribute to environmental sustainability, positioning itself as a reference for other municipalities.
